Would Shakespeare have embraced punk? He certainly liked mischief, mayhem, colourful insults and daring dress-up. To celebrate 400 years since Shakespeare’s death-day plus 40 years of punk rock, the salon’s immersive artists let Will’s inner Johnny Rotten out to play, sharing his sonnets alongside punk anthems.

The result, Sunk Punk Shakespeare, was part of the Mayor of London’s #LondonIsOpen cultural extravaganza at The British House in Rio, which shared the best of British contemporary culture and literary heritage with the world. The event was curated by Anna Maloney from the Mayor’s Culture Team at Mayor of London Office, who said: “I was delighted to ask the salon:collective to perform at British House. They are a fantastic collective and I wanted to share their talent and creativity with Rio audience. I was extremely proud to show Rio the taste of London.” And it seems from the Rio Times that Rio loved us.
